The city’s Lock 3 amphitheater, a beacon of downtown Akron, has hosted more than 3 million visitors since opening in 2003. Despite ongoing improvements to Main Street, a full summer of exciting events is still planned. The venue is proud to announce a 2018 summer season packed with 27 Friday and Saturday night concerts, 6 festivals, approximately 40 community fundraising events, plus blues and jazz concerts and Live at Lock 4 in neighboring Lock 4. Lock 3 opens its 2018 summer season with the first Rock the Lock concert, presented by WONE, Friday, May 25 on the Cleveland Clinic Akron General Stage, featuring 5150, Van Halen Tribute Band with Victory Hwy.

Lock 3 Live! Summer Saturday Concerts
Saturday night concert highlights include national artist The Bar-Kays for $10 admission on June 23. Tickets for the Bar-Kays go on sale through the Civic Theatre Box Office (330-2253-2488) April 20, presale on April 19.
The City of Akron’s Rib, White and Blue Festival June 29–July 4
Lock 3 expands its gates to encompass South Main Street for Northeast Ohio’s largest 4th of July Rib Festival, featuring rib vendors from all over the United States competing for cash prizes and bragging rights. For decades, Akron has celebrated Independence Day with food, fireworks, and music. Admission is free.
The 68th Annual Italian-American Festival July 12–14
The three-day festival opens for lunch on Thursday and Friday and continues through Saturday night. Dozens of vendors of authentic Italian food will be on hand through the three-day event on South Main Street. Admission is free.
The Akron African Festival July 21–22
The 37th annual African American Festival & Parade Exhibition has attracted thousands to the Akron area over the years. It is the second oldest cultural festival in Ohio. Individuals have planned family reunions and homecomings around the dates and nationally known speakers and entertainment have participated. Locally, economic entrepreneurship has been facilitated through adults and youth vendors offering food, cultural artifacts, commercial services, and youth activities.
The Signal Tree Festival – Saturday, August 11
Free Admission. This is a day-long party for Akron, by Akron, about Akron, celebrating what makes us unique. From sauerkraut balls and jo-jo’s, to marbles, blimps and devil strips, come join in the fun.
A Taste of Ireland – Saturday, August 17–18
Free Admission. Come to Lock 3 for a wee bit of food, drink and a whole lot of Blarney. Save the date, details coming soon.
Community Events Abound at Lock 3
Over $1 million has been raised for the charities which have used Lock 3 as a home base for fundraisers. Over 40 community events have been scheduled so far for Lock 3 in 2018.
Lock 4 Blues & Jazz and Live at Lock 4
The city of Akron will continue to host local jazz concerts outdoor in Lock 4 Wednesday, July 18 to August 29. In its third year is Live at Lock 4, occurring June 28, July 26, August 23 and September 27, where you can enjoy after-work local entertainment, food trucks, games, drinks and more. Admission is free to all Lock 4 events. The Lock 4 entrance is located on Bowery Street between Lock 3 and the Akron Civic Theatre.
