El Patrón Tequilería & Cuisine to Celebrate 5 Years in Business with Ribbon Cutting
April 14, 2026, Akron, Ohio — Beloved Mexican restaurant El Patrón Tequilería & Cuisine will celebrate five years of business in downtown Akron with a special ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday, April 24, from 1 to 2 pm, at 54 E. Mill St.
Owner and operator Luis Escudero says, “My major mission with running my business in downtown Akron is to create a thriving restaurant that attracts people downtown with a fresh and authentic take on Mexican cuisine. We also deeply desire to highlight positive experiences in Akron. This city is a great place to visit and enjoy. It is a safe and vibrant community that brings in people from all backgrounds and life experiences. As a stakeholder in this city I am committed to working, living and playing in downtown Akron, and I encourage everyone in Northeast Ohio to come enjoy downtown.”
El Patrón opened in 2021, during the COVID-19 Pandemic. Escudero, a Mexican immigrant from Mexico City who has lived in the United States for 26 years, has 15 years of total restaurant experience, including 10 years of working at his father’s business, the popular El Patrón Mexican Restaurant in Seville.
Escudero’s downtown Akron restaurant is an upscale restaurant with a focus on Mexican street tacos and homestyle Mexican cuisine. Their food menu showcases high-quality, traditional ingredients rarely found in American Mexican restaurants, such as nopal (cactus), jicama, escabeche (pickled vegetables), lamb, queso chihuahua, 100% organic agave, langosta (lobster), cangrejo (crab) and flor de calabaza (squash blossom). They also have several vegan and vegetarian menu offerings, cook primarily with olive and avocado oils, and offer preservative-free, non-GMO tortillas. The restaurant boasts an extensive tequila program, offering over 150 types of tequila and mezcal, as well as a rooftop patio with sweeping views of the downtown skyline.
Downtown Akron Partnership (DAP) President & CEO Kimberly Beckett says, “El Patrón is a true gem in the neighborhood. Boasting excellent food and beverage experiences and a beautiful patio, Luis and his team bring a unique dining experience to the downtown neighborhood. Establishing and growing a small business is no small feat, especially in an ever-changing retail environment. I congratulate Luis on his hard work and determination, and DAP looks forward to working with him to bring more people downtown in the years to come.”
Escudero is proud to have successfully operated his restaurant for five years and is excited to further cement the business’s roots in Akron for many years to come.
