Akron Municipal Court Welcomes Magistrate Myra Torain Embry

Akron, Ohio, December 18, 2025  – Last month, Akron Municipal Court Judge Annalisa S. Williams appointed Myra Torain Embry to serve as a full-time Magistrate in her courtroom. Judge Williams administered Magistrate Embry’s oath of office on Tuesday, November 4, 2025.

Magistrates are non-elected judicial officers and are appointed by the Judges of the Court.

Magistrate Embry previously served the Cleveland Housing Court as its Chief Magistrate.

In this role, Magistrate Embry’s duties included supervising the personnel and assignments of the Magistrates Department, monitoring scheduled jury trials and hearing civil, criminal and corporate dockets as needed.

Prior to joining Cleveland Housing Court, she was an attorney in the Civil Division of the Legal Aid Society of Cleveland for nearly seven years.

“I am grateful to have Magistrate Embry as a member of my personal staff,” said Judge Williams. “Magistrate Embry brings decades of legal experience, a strong work ethic and a positive attitude.”

Magistrate Embry earned her bachelor’s degree from Spelman College and her Juris Doctorate from Case Western Reserve University.

In her spare time, Magistrate Embry enjoys reading, hiking and exploring new cuisine.
