City of Akron Extends Cooling Center to Friday
Akron, Ohio, July 2, 2026 — Last week, Akron Mayor Shammas Malik announced the City would extend hours at Summit Lake Community Center (380 W. Crosier St.) on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday this week to provide a cooling center for residents in need. Today, the city has extended the cooling center to include Friday, July 3 as well. Summit Lake Community Center will be open from 9:00am-9:00pm through Friday. All other City of Akron community centers will be open during their normal business hours today but will be closed on Friday.
The two City outdoor pools will be open today and tomorrow from 1pm-7pm:
- Reservoir Park Pool – 1735 Hillside Terrace
- Perkins Woods Pool – 899 Diagonal Rd.
Pools are FREE, but a free Open Swim membership is required. Sign up today here. They will NOT be open on Saturday, July 4th.
The City’s four splash pads are also free and will be open every day from 10am-7pm including on Independence Day.
- Elizabeth Park Splash Pad – 68 East Lods St.
- Firestone Park Community Center Splash Pad – 1480 Girard St.
- Joy Park Community Center Splash Pad – 825 Fuller St.
- Patterson Park Community Center Splash Pad – 800 Patterson Ave.
