Summit Artspace Announces Amber Bishop as the Community Engagement Coordinator
Akron, OHIO (December 22, 2025) — Summit Artspace Executive Director, Natalie Grieshammer Patrick, has appointed Amber Bishop as the new Community Engagement Coordinator. This selection follows the transition of Anna E. Young to the role of Director of Artist Programs and Exhibitions, who previously held the role.
"We are thrilled to have Amber join our team for this vital role at Summit Artspace," states Natalie Grieshammer Patrick, Executive Director. "Her background in narrative art and film, coupled with previous social media and event roles at similar arts organizations, makes her perfectly positioned to tell the stories of our resident and exhibiting artists. To make this additionally special, Amber has taken part in our artist professional development programs and exhibitions, so she has felt the impact of our mission firsthand.”
Amber Bishop is a memory worker, artist, and filmmaker based in Ohio, dedicated to uplifting and protecting Black stories. Their artwork aims to capture their Black experience; revisits the past, and reimagines the future, focusing on alternative sites of memory and the Black fantastical life. She ; enjoys making films, video installations, and archiving the internet. She exhibited at institutions such as Summit Artspace, the Wexner Center, Aurora Dallas, and Akron Soul Train. She worked at several creative organizations such as The Center for Artistic Activism, Sundance and Meralta Films, supporting communications, artists and creative projects. Currently, they are a Woods Whole Film Festival Programming Fellow and help run youth programs in their neighborhood. Amber earned her MFA in Documentary Studies and Production at the University of North Texas.

With the addition of Bishop, Summit Artspace is now proud to have a fully artist-led staff. This comes at an exciting time for the organization, as it is entering its tenth anniversary in 2026, which will be focused on strategic planning for the next ten years and how it will continue serving artists. The Community Engagement Coordinator is an important contributor to Summit Artspace’s mission to connect artists and artist-serving organizations to the community and the resources they need to thrive — professionally, creatively, and financially. This team member will implement a vital and inclusive storytelling strategy in support of Summit Artspace’s core beliefs, which include the following: There is a mutually beneficial relationship between artists and the larger community; Artists enrich Summit County by improving quality of life; Artists thrive when they have a clear path to resources; Creativity thrives in an inclusive culture in which all forms of diversity are valued.
