Grace Barnard Promoted to Magistrate Position at The Akron Municipal Court
Akron, Ohio, June 16, 2025 – On Wednesday, June 11, 2025 Attorney Grace Barnard was sworn-in as a Magistrate by Akron Municipal Court Judge Ron Cable. This is a promotion as they were a Judicial Attorney prior to being named a Magistrate.
Magistrate Barnard is part of Judge Cable’s personal staff and first joined his team in 2022.
Magistrates are non-elected judicial officers and are appointed by the Judges of the Court.
Magistrate Barnard earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Film and Digital Media from Cleveland State University and a Juris Doctor from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law. They passed the State of Ohio Bar Exam in November 2018.
Prior to joining the Akron Municipal Court, they served as an Assistant Prosecutor and Assistant Director of Law for The City of Akron, a Litigation Support Specialist for Litigation Management Inc. and a Legal Intern for the Greater Cleveland Rapid Transit Authority.
“Magistrate Barnard is terrific at writing, time management and problem solving,” said Judge Cable. “Grace treats all visitors to my courtroom with kindness and respect.”
In their spare time, Magistrate Barnard volunteers with the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank and is an avid runner. They have been a member of Torchbearers, an Akron-based young professionals group, since 2024.
