Mayor Malik to Host 2025 State of the City Address on June 3

Akron, Ohio, April 16, 2025  — Akron Mayor Shammas Malik will deliver his second State of the City Address in the evening on Tuesday, June 3, 2025. This year’s address, hosted by the Akron Roundtable, will take place outdoors at Lock 3 (200 S. Main St.). Gates will open at 4 pm and the event will kick off at 5 pm with a conclusion around 6:30 pm. Mayor Malik invites Akron residents to attend the event for free by registering on the Akron Roundtable site here.

Seating is general admission with sections available for ADA accessibility, deaf or hard of hearing, Nepali and Spanish simultaneous interpretation, elected officials and City of Akron employees.

A rain contingency is scheduled for the same date and time at a nearby location. Notifications will be posted and shared by 9 am on June 3 should the event be moved inside.

There are sponsorship opportunities available, and organizations interested in sponsoring can contact the Akron Roundtable at info@akronroundtable.org or (330) 247-8682. Proceeds will support The Russell M. Pry Memorial Endowed Scholarship benefiting students at The University of Akron School of Law.

The event will be live streamed, and more details will follow about how to access the livestream. Dinner will not be served as part of the event, but food can be purchased at any of the surrounding downtown restaurants or through the concessions in Lock 3.  

Following the speech, the Akron RubberDucks will celebrate the 100-year anniversary of the Goodyear Blimp with their Akron Bicentennial Series kicking off at 6:35 pm. All those who register for the Mayor’s speech will have an opportunity to purchase discounted tickets for the game afterwards.
