City of Akron and Ron Marhofer Announce Cruise Into Summer Event on June 5

A Free Family Celebration to Kick Off a Fun and Safe Summer Season in Akron

Akron, Ohio, May 2, 2025 — The City of Akron Police and Fire departments, Lock 3, and Ron Marhofer are partnering to host the Cruise Into Summer event to celebrate the last day of school for Akron Public School students. The free community event is scheduled to take place Thursday, June 5 from 5-7:30pm at Lock 3 (200 S. Main). The event will feature games, food, entertainment, and summer resources for kids to help launch a strong, safe, and positive start to the summer season for Akron families.

“We’re excited to offer this free, family-friendly event to set our students on the right path for summer,” said Akron Mayor Shammas Malik. “We know that without resources and opportunities, students can become distracted in the summer months and that can lead to juvenile crimes or even violence. By providing them with options for programming, resources, and safety tips, we hope to keep them safe and having fun all summer long.”

“There is a correlation between the summer months and an increase in crime/violence not only in our community but across the country,” said Akron Police Chief Brian Harding. “This event is a great way to focus on our youth and give them and their families resources to help combat that trend here in Akron.”

Guests can expect:

  • Family-friendly games and activities
  • Entertainment
  • Delicious food options
  • Giveaways
  • Booths with information on camps, youth programs, safety initiatives, and more

Akron Fire Chief Leon Henderson added, “Whether you're looking for fun summer camps, safety tips, or just a place to celebrate the end of the school year with your kids, Cruise into Summer has something for everyone. Akron Fire Department will be on hand with safety tips and resources for our community, so we encourage everyone to come join us on June 5.”

“We’re thrilled to help create a space where families can come together, have fun, and learn about the many programs available to keep kids engaged and safe this summer,” said Lindsey Tinsley, Chief Marketing Officer at Ron Marhofer.

This event is made possible by generous contributions from local businesses.
