Live, local music in abundance in downtown Akron this summer

The streets and public spaces of Downtown Akron will be alive with music this summer as Downtown Akron Partnership and several local businesses partner on concert series during the lunch hour. The offerings encourage downtown employees to get out of the office to enjoy and Nantucket Concert Series, Commerce Park explore the neighborhood.

For the second year, people can grab lunch and catch a show at Commerce Park, between 1 S. Main and 17 S. Main St. during the Nantucket Concert Series presented by  Huntington Bank. Nantucket concerts run Wednesdays, through Aug. from 12-1 p.m. with support from Albrecht Inc.; Brennan Manna Diamond LLC; FirstEnergy;  JacksonKelly PLLC; Metisentry;  Niekamp, Weisensell, Mutersbaugh & Mastrantonio LLP and Roderick, Linton, Belfance.

"Our goal is to liven up the Downtown Akron lunch scene with music in the air and to showcase local artist. It is a great opportunity to listen to local artist in a convenient venue outside of a club or late night setting. We hope that the Downtown Akron community supports these events," said Chris Niekamp, an event sponsor.

For the third year the Sidewalk Stage, presented by Pritt Entertainment Group (PEG), brings music to the Canal District in Downtown Akron. The concerts take place in the courtyard adjacent to the PEG offices, located at 380 S. Main St., and run every Thursday, through Aug. 31 from 12-1 p.m. featuring local artists.

"We are always excited to support downtown programming and initiatives like the Sidewalk Stage. We're proud that our company is based in Downtown Akron, and helping make it a vibrant place during the workday is something that is really important to us," said Ryan Pritt, co-founder of Pritt Entertainment Group. "We're looking forward to these pop-up concerts being a fun weekly event, outside of our office, which is in close proximity to so many lunchtime destinations for downtown workers." 

Live music also returns to Cascade Plaza, as part of Summer on the Plaza. Music will be every Tuesday, June 6-Aug. 29 from 12-1 p.m. The series kicks off with Kofi Boakye. This event series is presented by Akron Civic Commons. In addition to live music, Recess will be back on the plaza Wednesdays and Fridays, June 7-August 30 from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.
