Release Date: August 31,2018
The Akron Children’s Museum will take guests back in time to the Roaring 20s at its third annual Great Gatsby-themed Grown-Up Play Date fundraiser, scheduled for the evening of September 8 at the museum. This premier philanthropic affair will feature an exciting medley of Gatsby-inspired entertainment including a live performance and interactive dance lesson by Get Hep Swing, casino tables, dancing, dinner catered by City BBQ and many other surprises. The highly anticipated silent and live auctions will offer over 50 items, which have been donated by local businesses, sponsors, and community leaders.
Net proceeds will benefit Akron Children’s Museum’s educational exhibits, STEM programming, and facility expansion efforts. The museum aims to break ground on a 3,000 square foot expansion that will add several new STEM-themed exhibits to the museum’s offerings in 2019. Executive Director Traci Buckner said, “This event has grown to be a favorite in the community. It’s easy to get excited when you know you’re supporting something for the children and for the community at large. We are looking forward to seeing all of the adults playing for a purpose!”
“We are honored to work with the many volunteers and sponsors who make the Grown-Up Play Date an amazing event,” said Akron business women and Committee Co-Chairs Melissa Fashinpaur and Kristin Durian in a joint statement. They have been leading the effort for the benefit and say the event promises to be a fun and memorable experience for all.
