Release Date: August 1,2017
Prior to First Night 2017, former button artists nominated peers to submit proposals. Due to feedback from past artists, an open RFP was suggested as a way to engage the area's artistic community. April Couch, artist and owner of Totally Tangled Creations was selected from a field of nearly 15 submissions.
"Being chosen as the First Night button artist was an amazing experience from start to finish," said April Couch, First Night 2017 button artist. "The benefits were immeasurable from name recognition to giving me more credibility as an artist. I received so much positive feedback from fellow artists and the community not to mention all the positive press. I totally felt like a rock star."
The artwork submitted should be visually active and represent the spirit of First Night Akron. Designs that include logos, copyrighted or trademarked images, advertisements, or political, commercial, religious, or sexual symbols, themes or messages will not be considered. Designs should be appropriate for a diverse, broad-based audience of all ages.
"First Night Akron is a celebration of the community so it makes sense for us to open up the button design process to the entire arts community. We were thrilled with April's work last year and look forward to seeing submissions for the 2018 design," said Kelli Fetter, DAP director of engagement and events.
The artwork will be featured on 13,000 admission buttons, the framed event poster for sponsors and incorporated into all marketing collateral for the event. The artist will also receive an honorarium of $500.
Inquiries and questions about the RFP must be submitted in writing to Kelli Fetter at email@example.com. Questions are due by August 9. All responses will be published at firstnightakron.org on August 11 and remain posted through the close of the submission period.
