Downtown Akron Partnership invites downtown green thumbs to adopt a planter

Downtown businesses and employees have an opportunity to bring a special touch to the vibrancy of downtown by adopting one or more of Downtown Akron Partnership's (DAP) sidewalk planters this season. More than 25 businesses and organizations took part in this beautification initiative last year to ensure that downtown was brimming with colorful and unique flower and foliage combinations.

This program is ideal for businesses and employees who love flowers but don't want, or have time for, the prep or season-long responsibility of maintenance. Adopt-a-Planter lets participants exercise a green thumb by selecting and planting flowers/greenery in a designated sidewalk planter within the downtown footprint. Planters will be prepared for planting by the end of May. DAP ambassadors will water and fertilize the planters throughout the growing season. DAP will reimburse participants up to $25 per planter for plants purchased.

Each adopted planter will get a personalized garden stake identifying the adoptive business or organization. A kickoff luncheon/workshop gets participants ready for planting with tips on plant selection from Keep Akron Beautiful. Call 330-374-7618 for an application or with any questions. Application deadline is April 25.
