The creative intention of my paintings is just as much definitive and intuitive of space and idea, as that space and idea is representative of self. My paintings are designed to define the separations between what is, and is not self, and explore the path that leads to that definition. This map to guide my process has long been a chessboard, and subsequently the chess log. In that way, I look for my paintings to act as a mirror for the viewer to examine their own log. Each painting starts with a particular examination. But just as in a game of chess, the ideology of each pathway is contingent on its interpretation.
