Details
This traveling banner exhibit introduces visitors to the complex history of St. Clair’s Defeat, on November 4, 1791, and its context and aftermath with respect to the nine Tribal Nations who orchestrated this great defeat of the U.S. Military. This exhibit was co-created by Ball State University in partnership with 11 Tribal Humanities Scholars.
The exhibit’s four themes, design, 15-minute video, and immersive qualities contextualize:
- the Background of the Northwest Indian War in what is now Ohio and Indiana;
- St. Clair’s Defeat and Native crescent strategy;
- the Aftermath including broken treaties, removal, and boarding schools;
- and the Persistence of Tribes today.
St. Clair’s Defeat Revisited will be on display in the Institute for Human Science and Culture’s Oak Native American Gallery from May 16, 2025 through October 4, 2025.
