Amanda Margaretha presents “Diverse and Sacred Journeys”, an exhibit focused on exploring identity, purpose, and the shared human experience. By interviewing Northeast Ohio residents from various cultural and generational backgrounds, Margaretha gains access to their inner world; their hopes and aspirations, their fears, and their exegesis of home. From these stories, Margaretha creates sculptures that incorporate spices of the world to reflect each personal passage.
Growing up in South Africa, Amanda Margaretha developed a desire to understand multiculturalism and people whose heritage holds the histories, languages, and traditions of many ethnicities and geographic influences at once. After traveling throughout the Middle East, she became entranced with spices; collecting and studying their properties, uses, and history. Spice became part of her art, and in 2024, she invented her signature technique—Raison D’être—which suspends spice in resin, capturing color and movement in a frozen state. Amanda Margaretha will install 16 pieces, eight wall panels with eight sculptures of objects selected from her interviews. Items like a pen, cups and saucers, and jewelry will appear alongside her Raison D’être technique, creating the illusion of a memory suspended in time. Come discover neighbors of the greater Akron community through their sculptural stories in “Diverse and Sacred Journeys”.
