On March 6th, the piano moves center stage and area talent steps into the limelight. Beethoven’s “Emperor” Concerto is one of, if not the most, supreme expressions of his heroic style. This performance welcomes Caroline Oltmanns, International Steinway Artist and Professor of Piano at Youngstown State University as our featured guest soloist. The evocative opening work, Emlanjeni (At the River), was composed by her husband, University of Akron Professor James Wilding, for Akron’s Bicentennial. Liszt (the conductor) championed Wagner’s Tannhäuser exploring love both sacred and sensual, before Liszt (the composer) forged his own orchestral language in the same new Romantic style. No music better illustrates the narrative power of his symphonic poems than Mazeppa.

All concerts take place at E.J. Thomas Performing Arts Hall, located on the campus of The University of Akron. Per guidelines set by the University of Akron, masks are optional for all patrons attending concerts at EJ Thomas Hall. Parking is FREE FOR ALL CONCERTGOERS. Parking is available on a first-come, first-served basis at the E.J. Thomas Parking Deck, Lot 27, and the North Campus Parking Deck.

We’ll do our best to seat you accordingly. If you need special seating in any way (such as easy access, or handicapped accessible), please indicate that in the notes or call the office.
