Tuesday Musical names new executive director

Akron, March 23, 2020 — Following a national search that drew 30 applicants from around the country, Tuesday Musical has named Cynthia Snider as its executive director.

Snider joined Tuesday Musical in 2015 to direct the organization’s fundraising and communications programs, and has served as interim executive director since September 2019.

Founded in 1887, Tuesday Musical presents concerts in Akron by world-acclaimed musicians and education and community engagement programs throughout northeast Ohio. It also presents an annual scholarship competition for music students studying at universities and colleges in Ohio and monthly music programs for its members.

“We are thrilled to have Cynthia continue to lead Tuesday Musical into the next chapter of development as our new executive director,” said Paul Filon, Tuesday Musical board president.

“Her background in non-profit work and her ties to the local community make Cynthia an ideal choice for our organization. She brings leadership, energy, and enthusiasm along with stability to an organization that has existed for more than 130 years,” he added. “I am delighted to have an executive director of her caliber leading us into the future.”

Cellist Yo Yo Ma and the Silk Road Ensemble, violinist Joshua Bell and the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields, soprano Renee Fleming and tenor Luciano Pavarotti, Emerson String Quartet, Canadian Brass, Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra and trumpeter Wynton Marsalis, and Imani Winds are among the artists who have appeared on Tuesday Musical concert series over the years.

“I’m honored to help Tuesday Musical continue its powerful mission of sharing magnificent music and musicians with our community,” said Snider.

“Tuesday Musical is unique and invaluable — in the concert hall and beyond,” she added. “We curate concert seasons that audience members won’t find anywhere else in northeast Ohio. Plus, we provide education and engagement programs that give children and adults access to world-class music

Snider previously worked for 31 years at The University of Akron, including nearly 10 years as its media relation director. She also directed communications, community engagement, development, special events, and other initiatives for UA’s programs in the visual and performing arts.

She began her communications career in 1976 as a reporter and editor for several weekly newspapers in Northeast Ohio.

As an arts advocate and volunteer, Snider is a board member of Neos Dance Theatre. She was a longtime board member and vice president for the Akron Area Arts Alliance’s executive board until 2015. She has also served on the boards of the Autism Society of Greater Akron and the Greater Akron Musical Association and been involved in other community organizations such as Friends of Fashion at Kent State University.

Snider holds a bachelor's degree in journalism from Kent State University and a master's degree in higher education administration from The University of Akron.

Previous executive directors for Tuesday Musial include Barbara Feld, who succeeded longtime concert manager Lola Rothmann in 1989 and served until retiring in 2013, and Jarrod Hartzler, who succeeded Feld and served until 2019.
