The Western Reserve Community Fund and Akron Urban League announced first participants for Minority Contractor Capital Access Program (MCCAP)

SUMMIT COUNTY, OHIO — In May, the county and city of Akron approved legislation to fund the Minority Contractor Capital Access Program(MCCAP), a collaborative initiative to provide financial and technical assistance to Akron and Summit County-based minority, women, LGBTQ, persons with disabilities and veteran-owned contracting businesses. The program is operated through the Western Reserve Community Fund (WRCF), which is managed by the Development Finance Authority of Summit County. The Akron Urban League is organizing and managing the technical assistance for participating firms. MCCAP is an important piece of Summit County and City of Akron’s efforts to provide COVID-19 relief for hard hit minority businesses by providing access to capital and technical assistance which will enable these businesses to have greater opportunity to bid on projects. The initial cohort includes the following eight contracting businesses:

  •  All Around Heating & Cooling
  •  APLUS Tech, LLC
  •  B&G Masonry & Remodeling
  •  Kingdom Construction & Builders LLC
  •  Mason Construction & Concrete LLC
  •  VIP Ltd LLC
  •  White Glove Cleaning Solutions, LLC
  •  Worthy Construction Group 2G, LLC.

Another enrollment period will begin in the New Year. Businesses participating in the program will have access to funding for project-specific purchase of materials and labor costs, and an affordable performance bond program which has historically been a difficult barrier for small and minority-owned businesses. Each business will also have access to a variety of education and mentorship programs including accounting, marketing, IT, legal, bidding/estimating and bonding.

The Akron Urban League is seeking individuals willing to participate as a mentor within the program. Any interested persons should contact Kimberly Lee at 234-542-4145 or klee@akronurbanleague.org
