The Nightlight Welcomes Back Oscar Nominated Shorts

Akron, Feb 23, 2022 - The Nightlight welcomes the return of the Oscar Nominated Short Films to the theater this year, opening Friday, Feb 25.

“After being solely virtual last year, The Nightlight is thrilled to bring back the Oscar nominated shorts to the theater. This is one of the most popular programs we offer each year, so patrons are encouraged to reserve tickets in advance.” – Jenn Kidd, Executive Director

Audiences will view the films in three separate bundles coordinated by Magnolia Pictures & ShortsTV in the categories of Animation (97 minutes), Documentary (160 minutes), and Live Action (121 minutes). Showtimes and tickets can be found at www.nightlightcinema.com.

Patrons will be invited to participate in an audience wide ballot for the Oscar shorts, voting for their favorites in each category, and entering a raffle to win one year of free popcorn as well as Nightlight-themed merchandise. The theater will release the results of the fan favorites before the Oscars on March 27th, 2022.

Theatergoers should note that – unlike previous years – this year’s nominees are decidedly not suitable for children, due to adult themes and content. Because of this, The Nightlight will not be admitting children for these shows.

The cinema continues to make pandemic safety a priority with an upgraded HVAC system and reduced seating capacity in the theater, along with a mask requirement and proof of vaccination.

The Nightlight is an independent, nonprofit cinema located at 30 North High Street in downtown Akron. It opened on July 1, 2014, thanks to key grants from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation and GAR Foundation. Showtimes and tickets can be found at www.nightlightcinema.com.
