The Akron Symphony Orchestra returns to the stage on June 19

June 14, 2021, Akron, Ohio — The Akron Symphony Orchestra returns to the stage on June 19 as we present the first concert in our Outside Voices Concert Series at Lock 3 beginning at 7:30 p.m.

The free concert, under the direction of Maestro Christopher Wilkins, will feature the Akron Symphony Strings performing on the first half, then the Akron Symphony Symphonic Winds will take the stage for the second half of the concert. The evening will feature works from J. Rosamond Johnson, Florence Price, William Grant Still, Jessie Montgomery, Gustav Holst and Omar Thomas.

Featured soloists for the evening include Dione Parker Bennett, soprano, Brenda Hanna Justice, soprano, and Pastor Henry Payden, baritone. Gospel Meets Symphony Choirmaster Jonathon Turner will also take the podium during the evening as guest conductor.

The Outside Voices Concert Series focuses on the music of under-represented composers who are “outside” of the standard repertoire, along with numerous audience favorites. The series presents an opportunity for the ASO to expand its musical offerings and share a diversity of composers with the Northeast Ohio community.

While all the concerts in the Outside Voices series are free, we ask that those planning to attend RSVP by filling out a short form at akronsymphony.org. As our way of saying “thank you,” everyone who RSVPs will be entered into a drawing for two tickets to an ASO concert at E.J. Thomas Performing Arts Hall during the 2020-21 season.

There are several convenient parking options for Lock 3, including the State Street Deck at 55 W. State Street or the surface lot on Bowery Street.

Please note: Concerts are weather dependent. All programming subject to change.
