Summit Choral Society: Expanded Music Education Programs

February 9, 2021, Akron, Ohio — Summit Choral Society is broadening its music educational curriculum! Designed to create and embrace positive musical opportunities based in song, newly expanded offerings provide impactful experiences in the community.

Expanded Programs

  • DrumSing - a unique, hybrid musical experience combining traditional drumline with pitched melodies. Directed by Matt Dudack
  • Sing With Me – an early childhood music program, birth to age five (5). Directed by Heather Cooper
  • Summer Music Camps - day camps exploring music, theatre and dance for school aged children. Directed by SCS Artistic Staff

These new experiences complement Summit Choral Society’s current programming which includes the nationally recognized, award-winning Children's Choir Program, Akron City Gospel Singers and Metropolitan Chorus. “It is exciting to announce these new, innovative programs! Diversifying the SCS experience and providing safe, in person music opportunities cannot be underestimated during these difficult times. “We are so lucky to have support from the greater Akron community and continue to provide services that not only serve musical growth but also stimulate artistic expression and promote general community wellness” says Shara Cocchiola, SCS’s Executive Artistic Director. “Music just reaches people, it empowers them.” New programming will be launched late spring 2021.
