Summit Choral Society Announces Christmas Candlelight Virtual Video

(November 23, 2020, AKRON, OH) — Summit Choral Society’s (SCS) much anticipated event of the season, the Christmas Candlelight Concert (CCC), will be released for free to the community via a video release on December 18th! The Christmas Candlelight Concert series is an annual Akron holiday tradition, celebrating its 31st year.

Due to restrictions surrounding the COVID 19 crisis Summit Choral Society is unable to offer this performance live for the public at the historic St. Bernard Catholic Church. Instead SCS will bring inspiration to you this holiday season with a video production to be enjoyed community-wide from the comfort and safety of your homes. This free community virtual production features a combination of traditional holiday songs, striking classical choir performances as well as soloists and instrumentalists—providing the full Christmas Candlelight Concert experience downtown Akron has come to love.

The Metropolitan Chorus will enchant viewers with beautiful singing in Wonderful Peace (virtual choir) by Gustav Nordqvist and the Hallelujah Chorus from Handel’s Messiah both under the direction of Dr. Britt Cooper. They will also be featured in a gorgeous recording of Cantique de Jean Racine by Gabriel Fauré under the direction of James Mismas. Other works include: Gesu Bambino by Pietro Yon and Toccata on Veni Emmanuel by Andrew Carter played by prolific organist and SCS Principal Conductor Heather J. Cooper, Angel by Sergei Rachmaninoff stunningly executed by Performance Choir, Oh Come Little Children adorably sung by Beginning Singing under the direction of Jessica Bell, Ave Maria by Franz Schubert emotionally performed by soprano soloist Amber Cocchiola, and a spectacular Christmas holiday medley arranged and performed by Jaron M. LeGrair compiled of We Three Kings, Oh Little Town of Bethlehem and Oh Holy Night. The concert traditionally closes with an audience singalong. SCS has included Hark the Herald Angels Sing as well as Silent Night arranged by Dan Forrest with lyrics on screen so at home viewers can be part of the performance.
