Probate Court & Cleveland Clinic Akron General’s McDowell Cancer Center present Healing Expressions
(Summit County, Ohio) – Summit County Probate Court and the McDowell Cancer Center Art Therapy Program presents Healing Expressions, an art display created by patients and caregivers. These unique works of art can be seen on the first floor of the historic Summit County Courthouse August 16, 2021 thru October 14, 2021 as part of the Curated Courthouse, providing respite and representation throughout the courthouse.
All artwork was created by cancer and blood disorder patients and/or their caregivers. The McDowell Cancer Center makes art therapy services available to patients and their caregivers during and after treatments at the infusion centers.
"This artwork reflects the many emotions that patients go through after a diagnosis,” shared Amber Gano, Board Certified Art Therapist of the McDowell Cancer Institute. “The images represent how art can be a creative, therapeutic avenue to explore and express these emotions in order to heal."
“We are excited to partner for the first time with the McDowell Cancer Center to display the art of those overcoming a difficult time,” said Summit County Probate Court Judge Elinore Marsh Stormer. “We hope that their art provides respite to them and to those who now get to view their work in the courthouse.”
The Summit County Court House is open to the public 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday at 209 S High St, Akron, OH 44308. The Atrium is located on the first floor of the Summit County Court House outside of the Probate Court. Current Covid 19 protocol requires masks in all Summit County buildings for both vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals.
