Mayor Horrigan Will Continue Virtual Town Halls through April

Residents can interact with the Town Halls on Facebook Live or listen through new call-in phone line

Akron, Ohio, April 15, 2020 – Akron Mayor Dan Horrigan has conducted three virtual town halls during the City’s response to the COVID-19 outbreak. During these interactive conversations, Mayor Horrigan gives updates on the continuity of city services, local resources for families and businesses, and how the City is implementing the guidelines from Governor DeWine and state and local health officials.  He then spends the majority of the 30-minute town halls answering residents’ questions. Mayor Horrigan will continue to conduct weekly town halls through the end of April. To improve the accessibility of these town halls, there will also be a telephone call-in line offered to reach residents who may not be on social media. Mayor Horrigan’s next virtual town hall will be live streamed on Monday, April 20, at 12:00 p.m.

“These town halls are my way of connecting directly with Akron residents during this unprecedented time,” said Mayor Horrigan. “While we are all trying to stay home as much as possible to stop the spread of COVID-19, it’s important that we all stay connected and that I keep residents informed about what’s happening in their communities. I want residents to understand how we are responding to this crisis. I have enjoyed these conversations with residents, and I’m looking forward to expanding our reach to those who may not be on social media.”

To help increase accessibility for those who don’t have a Facebook account or internet access, Mayor Horrigan is adding a listen-only call-in line for residents to be able to hear these City updates. Phone participants will be able to hear the entire town hall, including the question and answer portion.  Call-in information is provided below.

While questions cannot be accepted live through the phone during the town hall, the City accepts questions ahead of time from residents by email to Mayor@akronohio.gov or via social media to the City’s Facebook page at City of Akron, Ohio – Mayor’s Office. Residents can now also call 3-1-1, in advance, to relay their questions for Mayor Horrigan to address during the town hall.

During the town hall, residents can also type questions in the comments on the Facebook live stream and Mayor Horrigan will answer as many as he can.

The next two Town Hall meetings are as follows:

  • Monday, April 20, 2020 from 12:00 PM (noon) to 12:30 p.m.
  • Monday, April 27, 2020 from 12:00 PM (noon) to 12:30 p.m.

To call-in and listen to either of the town halls, please dial 1-646-558-8656 before the event begins at noon.  When prompted, please enter meeting code: 986 6405 0983 followed by the pound sign (#).  (No participant code is required).
