Make a Day of It on Main this Saturday

(Akron, Ohio) - Opportunities abound for visitors to make a day of it on Main Street this Saturday and next. Saturday, October 24th and 31st are scheduled with offerings from Lock 3, Akron Children's Museum, the Akron Civic Theatre and Downtown Akron Partnership (DAP).

The second Harvest Mart will be held on Main Street and in Lock 3 on Saturday the 24th from 1 to 5 p.m. and will again feature fresh food and handcrafted goods from local farmers and artisans. A list of vendors is included below.

From 1 to 3 p.m. Hudson collaborative arts organization Door #2 Studio will lead #PictureYourselfOnMain Community Painting. Visitors can create a self-portrait on used paint brushes (the bristles are the 'hair') and place them in a landscape painting created by local artist Lizzi Aronhalt. All the supplies will be provided by Door #2.

Akron Children's Museum will host Monster Rocktober family-friendly, physically distanced activities from 1:30 - 5:30 p.m. At 1:30 p.m. the fun starts with a singalong with Jesse Jukebox, followed by a dance party with Art Sparks at 3 p.m., and a performance by Josh the Juggler from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.

From 5 to 8 p.m., families are encouraged to try the Main Street SCARE-venger Hunt, a fun scavenger hunt up and down either side of Main Street gathering answers to the hunt's questions. Once completed, kids and families can show their SCARE-venger Hunt list to Akron Children's Museum and DAP representatives on Main St. and receive a bag of candy. Two different candy bags are being produced: one without nuts or chocolate, for children with nut allergies, and one with.

Also from 5 - 8 p.m., families can have a free portrait taken by a professional photographer beneath the lighted marquee of the Akron Civic Theatre. Costumes are encouraged, but not required. Participants will receive a code to access and download the photos when they are ready.

At 8 p.m., Lock 3 lights up with a free screening of Hotel Transylvania.

All of the events and activities on Saturday, October 24 are free and open to all.

Harvest Mart will be staged in Lock 3 along Main Street. Since Harvest Mart also occurs in the DORA, visitors age 21 and over can purchase adult beverages from The Lockview, Barley House or Lock 3 in special DORA cups and enjoy them as they shop.

What to expect at Harvest Mart

All Harvest Mart vendors will be wearing masks and will have hand sanitizer at their tents. The market will have one-way traffic signs set up to ensure an orderly flow of visitors and make it easier to maintain physical distancing. Market organizers ask that shoppers refrain from touching vendors' merchandise and instead ask the vendor to bag it for you. Bring a reusable bag to transport purchases home. All visitors should also wear masks. Picnic tables near the stage at Lock 3 will be available for shoppers wanting to rest, eat or drink.
