Lock 3 amphitheatre in downtown Akron releases 2019 summer concert and event schedule
Akron Mayor Dan Horrigan is proud to announce the 2019 Lock 3 summer concert and event schedule.
“This summer will be another fun and dynamic season of entertainment, family friendly programming, and festivals in downtown Akron,” Mayor Horrigan said. “The 2019 summer schedule is packed with 27 Friday and Saturday night concerts, seven festivals, more than 40 community fundraising events, and blues and jazz in neighboring Lock 4. Don’t be discouraged by the ongoing construction – Lock 3 will be fully accessible for our favorite outdoor summer traditions, including food, concerts, fireworks, and cultural celebrations.”
Lock 3 amphitheater, a beacon of downtown Akron, has hosted more than three million visitors since opening in 2003. Lock 3 opens its 2019 summer season with the first Rock the Lock concert, presented by WONE, Friday, May 24 on the Cleveland Clinic Akron General Stage, featuring Crush, A Tribute to Bon Jovi with Victory Hwy. National caliber rock and roll tribute bands will continue to be a signature of Lock 3 on Friday nights during the summer.

Saturday night concert highlights include national artist ConFunkShun for $10 admission on June 29. Tickets for ConFunkShun go on sale through the Civic Theatre Box Office (330-253-2488) April 26, presale on April 25.

The City of Akron’s Rib, White and Blue Festival July 3 – 6
Lock 3 expands its gates to encompass South Main Street for Northeast Ohio’s largest 4th of July Rib Festival, featuring rib vendors from all over the United States competing for cash prizes and bragging rights. For decades, Akron has celebrated Independence Day with food, fireworks, and music. Admission is free. Don’t miss this year’s July 4th Fireworks Display at 9:45 p.m. In addition, Lock 3 will host a bonus fireworks show on July 6th after Turn It Up The Leonard Skynyrd Experience, at approximately 10:15 p.m.
The 71st Annual Italian-American Festival July 11–13
The three-day festival opens for lunch on Thursday and Friday and continues through Saturday night. Dozens of vendors of authentic Italian food will be on hand through the three-day event on South Main Street. Admission is free.
The Akron African Cultural Association Festival July 20–21
The 38th annual African American Festival & Parade Exhibition has attracted thousands to the Akron area over the years. It is the second oldest cultural festival in Ohio. Individuals have planned family reunions and homecomings around the dates and nationally known speakers and entertainment have participated. Locally, economic entrepreneurship has been facilitated through adults and youth vendors offering food, cultural artifacts, commercial services and youth activities.
A Taste of Ireland – Saturday, August 16-17
Free Admission. Come to Lock 3 for a wee bit of food, drink and a whole lot of Blarney.
Akron Pizza Fest – NEW THIS YEAR - August 30 – Sept. 1
Come and enjoy your favorite pizza. Admission is $5. (Free admission on Friday night during Rock the Lock.) The Akron PIZZA Fest is a 3-day food and music festival featuring America's #1 food item - PIZZA. This Labor Day Weekend event will be held at Lock 3 in downtown Akron and will allow festival goers the unique opportunity to purchase sample sized slices from eight Akron area parlors. In addition to pizza, attendees will rock out to continuous local bands, taste regional beer favorites from THIRSTY DOG BREWING, enjoy family fun festivities all weekend long. Lock 4 Blues & Jazz and Gospel
The city of Akron will continue to host local Blues & Jazz concerts outdoor in Lock 4 on Wednesdays, July 17 through August 28 and Gospel Sundays on July 28, Aug. 11 and Sept. 8.
