Akron, OHIO (Sept. 22, 2020) – Area art lovers can help keep the arts alive during this pandemic by bidding for original pieces created by local artists in the Keeping Arts Alive 2020 Virtual Auction, Oct. 1-4, to benefit Summit Artspace operations and programs.

The public is also welcome to view the pieces in person at Summit Artspace Thurs., Oct. 1 and Fri., Oct. 2, from noon-7 p.m., and Sat., Oct. 3 from noon-8 p.m.  Visitors will be eligible for an entry into a drawing for a pair of wireless headphones donated by Audio-Technica.

Local artists have been donating original works for the virtual auction which is a highlighted feature of the annual Arts Alive Awards and Fundraiser for the regional arts organization.

“Earlier this year, we made the difficult decision to postpone our annual in-person awards ceremony that recognizes excellence in the arts community,” said Megann Eberhart, interim executive director, Summit Artspace. “However, we were determined to continue the auction in 2020 to help raise much-needed funds, especially at a time when arts and culture organizations are suffering. People can own one-of-a-kind, authentic pieces, while making it possible to keep the gallery doors open and the arts alive.”

The Arts Alive Awards event was created in 2001 to recognize gifted artists, art educators and change-making advocates and volunteers with an inspiring celebration of achievement. They bring art to life and help shape the region’s culture.

Summit Artspace’s galleries are open for regular weekend hours with safety guidelines in place. The galleries and artist studios are located at Summit Artspace, 140 E. Market St., Akron.  For more information, visit the website at https://summitartspace.org.
