Downtown Favorite United States Potato Service Rebranding Around Pierogies

Akron, OH – November 18, 2024 – The United States Pierogi Service will replace its potato themed predecessor on Main St. in Downtown Akron. Longtime downtown restaurant owner and community advocate, Danny Basone, is excited to announce this pierogi themed concept which recently unveiled its new menu.

Centered around the comforting nostalgia of the Polish delight, pierogies, the restaurant is located at 209 S. Main St. conveniently nestled across the street from the Akron Civic Theatre and the newly beautified Lock 3 Park, next door to Basone’s Downtown Akron staple grilled cheese spot – The Lockview.

Key highlights of the new menu include:

Pierogies in a variety of flavors that make us say “Yes, Chef” and cooked-all-day caramelized onions, complimented by a “build-your-own” style selection of sauces, toppings, and add-ons like brown butter and sage, kielbasa, fried cabbage and more
Homemade Spaetzle served with smoked sausage.
A rotating pierogi special, opting for a creative take on the tried-and-true classic.
Vegetarian Sauerkraut Balls made in-house.
The new concept will retain some of its United States Potato Service favorites as well – don’t worry, your favorite poutine, potato soup, dino nuggets and loaded mashed potato bowl aren’t going anywhere.

As a complement to the menu, United States Pierogi Service will celebrate Old World Wednesdays every week, serving Haluski (cabbage and noodles) and other rotating traditional dishes.

United States Pierogi Service not only caters to “traditional eaters,” but happily delivers options for food lovers with dietary restrictions as well.

Chef Katie Martin will be leading the culinary team at this new Pierogi-haven. Chef Katie, who worked most recently at Alexander Pierce Restaurant in Akron where she quickly rose through the kitchen ranks from dish to pastry chef to sauté, looks forward to bringing her expertise to the downtown area.

10 years ago, Danny Basone took over the place next door to The Lockview as a project and concept space. The goal for this spot is simply to have fun and enjoy experimenting with different cuisines and approaches and Basone has done just that.

Available on DoorDash, for dine-in or pickup, United States Pierogi Service is open Monday – Friday from 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm with plans to open for lunch soon.
