Alpha Phi Awards $7,500 in Grants

Akron, OH, August 11, 2021 – The Alpha Phi Alpha Foundation, whose mission is to serve those in need, awarded the following grants at its July 21, 2021 meeting.

Foundation Chairperson Attorney Charles L. Greene said, “Akron has many organizations who are doing great work and helping those in need.  We are pleased that we are able to contribute to their ongoing good work.”

The Akron Urban League received $2,500 in support of their Annual Gala “The Art of Renaissance: Designing the Change We Wish to See.”  This event will be held on August 28, 2021.

The Greater Akron Canton Association of Black Social Workers received $1,500 to support youth participating in their “Education by Exposure” tour to Montgomery, Alabama.  The youth will view the Equal Justice Initiative Legacy Museum and Memorial and other civil rights institutions.

Sarah’s House, Inc., which is part of the Akron-Canton Regional Food Band, received $1,000 to support their Food Assistance, Hygiene and Non-Food Items program for families and senior citizens.

Haven of Rest Ministries received  $2,500 in support of their Men’s and Women’s Emergency Shelters and Dorm programs.  Haven of Rest Ministries works with guests on becoming viable independent working citizens and securing permanent housing.

“Our organization is a bridge to help other organizations develop programs and services that their budget may not permit to be fully realized,” said Greene.

The Alpha Foundation accepts requests for funding throughout the year. Non-profit and Non-profit Supported Organizations serving the Greater Akron Community are encouraged to submit grant proposals to:
