Akron Municipal Court Judge Nicole Walker, Court Staffer to Be Honored as “Women Of Distinction”

Akron, Ohio, March 15, 2024 – Akron Municipal Court Judge Nicole Walker and Akron Municipal Court Community Outreach and Grants Coordinator Nicole Hagy will be receiving “Women of Distinction” honors this May from the Girl Scouts of North East Ohio.

The 13th Annual Women of Distinction Awards Luncheon, hosted by the Girl Scouts of North East Ohio, recognizes women in the region who go above and beyond to make our communities better places to live and work. Ten women total will be recognized as “Women of Distinction” along with three high school students who will receive college scholarships as part of their “Leaders of Tomorrow” acknowledgement. Rock Entertainment Group will receive the “Advancing Women Award.”

The luncheon will take place at the InterContinental Hotel Cleveland on Thursday, May 16, 2024 beginning at 11:30 a.m. The event’s Emcee is Summit County native Betsy Kling who is Chief Meteorologist at WKYC studios in Cleveland.

“Girls need to see leadership, courage, confidence, and purpose-driven accomplishment in other women in order to envision themselves with those qualities,” said GSNEO Chief Executive Officer Jane Christyson. “We are proud to celebrate both Judge Walker and Ms. Hagy as role models who pave the way for our future female leaders.”

Akron Municipal Court Administrative/Presiding Judge Annalisa S. Williams was included in the “Women of Distinction” Class of 2022.

About Judge Nicole Walker
Judge Nicole Walker served as a magistrate for the Honorable Elinore Marsh Stormer in the Summit County Probate Court before first being elected judge in November 2017. She was reelected in 2023.

In 2019, Judge Walker became the Presiding Judge of the Akron Municipal Court’s Active Recovery Creates Hope (ARCH) Court, a specialized docket intended to supervise OVI offenders in the community and help impact the jail population by reducing long-term sentences.

Prior to serving in the Summit County Probate Court, Judge Walker served as a magistrate in the Summit County Court of Common Pleas and as an assistant prosecutor in the felony division of the Summit County Prosecutor’s Office.

Before entering public service, Judge Walker began her legal career an associate attorney with Brouse McDowell, L.P.A. where she focused on business and civil litigation.

Judge Walker graduated from The University of Akron and The University of Akron School of Law. Judge Walker is active in the community, serving on several boards and frequently giving informational talks and presentations on subjects such as crisis intervention training for police officers and first responders, financial exploitation of the elderly and how to protect assets.

About Nicole Hagy
Nicole Hagy joined the Akron Municipal Court as its Community Outreach and Grants Coordinator in June 2017. As Community Outreach and Grants Coordinator, she serves as the primary contact for local media, pursues grant dollars to fund Court programs and projects and creates content for the Court’s social media accounts. Prior to working at the Akron Municipal Court, she led social media efforts for several nonprofit and for-profit organizations located in Northeast Ohio.

Nicole earned a Bachelor of Arts in Marketing from Walsh University in 2007 and a Master of Science in Integrated Marketing Communications from West Virginia University in 2013.

In 2019, Nicole was honored with the 30 For The Future Award from the Greater Akron Chamber. In 2021, she was presented with the Laura Allio Emerging Leader Award from the Women’s Network Leadership Institute.

She proudly serves on the Board of Directors for the Hope Meadows Foundation and completed two terms on the Victim Assistance Program’s Board of Directors.
