High Arts Festival elevates the excellence of the arts community through peer-to-peer assessment, connecting new audiences to local art and individual artists, and increasing the awareness of the vibrant artistic hub that exists in downtown Akron.
The public will vote for favorites in each category via a mobile app or kiosks in participating venues.
The event is sponsored by Peg's Foundation and made possible by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation’s Knight Arts Challenge. Additional support is provided by Ohio Arts Council.
142 visual art pieces at Summit Artspace Thursday and Friday from 12-7 p.m. and Saturdays from 12-5 p.m. between Sept. 14 and Oct. 6. Visual art weekend kicks off at Opening Night on Sept. 14.
28 super short (60-second or less) and short (61 second-10 minute) film entries at The Nightlight during the film festival weekend on Sept. 22 from 1-9 p.m. The films are split into two progams, A and B. Program A runs 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. and Program B runs 3 p.m. and 7 p.m.
28 poetry and prose submissions at Uncorked Wine Bar and Blu Jazz+ on Sept. 29 during the literary art festival weekend from 5-8 p.m. These presentations kick off with a live reading by Ohio Poet Laureate, Dave Lucas at 5 p.m. at Uncorked.
At the the finale reception and awards presentation on Oct. 6 from 8-10 p.m. This night a total of $32,000 will be distributed to winners that are decided by public and juried votes.
The High Arts Festival app is available for free from the Google Play Store/iTunes Store. Through the app, you can register to vote, explore all of the entries and vote on your favorite art, music, film and literary work throughout the event.
