Graduate composition student Julie Sedlovsky presents exciting new works alongside guest and School of Performing Arts musicians.

Julie Sedlovsky is a composer whose work spans a wide range of genres and instrumentations. Inspired by personal experiences and contemporary societal events, her music reflects both emotional depth and artistic versatility.
She is currently completing a Master of Music in Composition at the University of Akron, where she studies with James Wilding and Robert Brownlow. An active member of the University’s jazz program, Julie also composes for the big band. In spring 2026, her original work God Help Us, America was premiered by the University of Akron Jazz Ensemble and featured internationally acclaimed trumpeter Sean Jones as guest artist.
In addition to her work as a composer, Julie is a dedicated music educator. She has taught music in a variety of school settings and currently operates her own private music lessons studio, where she works with students of all ages and skill levels.
This recital showcases Julie’s work in both the classical and jazz traditions. The first half of the program features her classical compositions, including works for alto saxophone, soprano saxophone with mixed media, cello and piano, and an unaccompanied soprano saxophone solo. The second half presents a jazz ensemble with a traditional rhythm section, premiering her continuous suite, Five Senses of the Soul.
