METRO Regional Transit Authority Approves Contract with TWU.

February 16, 2022, Akron, Ohio — On February 16, 2022, METRO’s Board of Trustees approved the final agreement with the Transport Workers Union of America, Local No. 1, (TWU) membership for a three-year contract during a special meeting.

TWU ratified the contract on February 8, 2022. The contract has a retroactive effect date from June 1, 2021 and will expire on May 31, 2024.

“This agreement creates a stepping stone to creating a stronger relationship with the TWU membership, forms a stronger and clear path to future negotiations, and to any issues that arise in the day-to-day operations of METRO in regards to the TWU membership,” said METRO CEO Dawn Distler. “METRO and TWU worked diligently to agree to the new terms with no service disruptions to METRO’s transit-loyal riders. We appreciate the professionalism and dedication of the TWU negotiating team on both the local and international level. Their commitment to their membership and to METRO’s riders was evident from day one.”

“On behalf of METRO’s Board of Trustees, we trust this agreement is fair and equitable to METRO and the membership and, most importantly, it is a contract that strongly benefits METRO riders,” said METRO Board President Robert DeJournett.

TWU currently represents 74% of budgeted METRO team members, including bus operators, vehicle service employees, vehicle detailers, and customer care representatives.
