Alpha Phi Alpha Foundation Selects Charles R. Parnell as Next Chairman

Akron, Ohio, July 26, 2023 – The Alpha Phi Alpha Foundation has elected Charles R. Parnell as Chairman, succeeding Charles Greene, CEO of Tomorrow’s People Inc. The Alpha Foundation was established in 1988 by the late Judge James R Williams, founder and first chairman, who departed this life on November 6, 2020.

Led by Williams in 1988, the foundation was created by the Eta Tau Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. to provide financial assistance to nonprofit organizations that serve and support the minority community in Greater Akron. Parnell currently works as a Human Resources Recruiter, for Community Action Akron Summit. He is a former Pharmaceutical Sales District Manager, Educator and Coach.

When interviewed Parnell said of the foundation, “We typically provide assistance to help the low-income, seniors, families and children in our community. Our goal is to provide support where we can make a difference in people’s lives. I am truly honored to continue the legacy through the important work of the foundation that the late James R Williams created.”

The foundation board is represented by Sam DeShazior (Vice Chairman), Larry Thomas (Secretary), Paul Stallings (Treasurer), Malcolm Costa, Tony Barnes, and Charles DeBose.

During the first and second quarters of 2023, some of the note-worthy grants awarded by Alpha Phi Alpha Foundation include the Boys and Girls Club of Northeast Ohio totaling $3,000 to assist in the area of youth and family, The University of Akron Black Brown & Beyond Summit totaling $5,000 to support an increase in black male college acceptance, retention, and graduation rates and the March of Dimes/March for Babies totaling $3,000 to assist in the area of health.

The foundation accepts and awards requests throughout the year.
