Warm away the winter blues with the sizzling sounds of The University of Akron Steel Drum Band on Sunday, April 7, at 8 p.m. at E.J. Thomas Performing Arts Hall. Joining the UA Steel Band is Miami (Ohio) University’s Steel Band and special guest pannist Liam Teague.
Hailed as the “Paganini of the Steelpan,” Liam Teague’s commitment to demonstrating the great musical possibilities of the steelpan has garnered international acclaim. He is a professor of music and head of Steelpan Studies at Northern Illinois University.
Now in its 38th year, the award-winning University of Akron Steel Drum Band was founded by UA Distinguished Professor Dr. Larry Snider and is directed by Matthew Dudack. The Miami University Steel Band is under the direction of Chris Tanner, interim chair of the Department of Music.
