Downtown Districts

Downtown Akron truly has something for everyone. As the downtown area evolves, districts are emerging and things are happening! From the creative Northside, to the renovated Historic District, downtown offers a clean, safe and convenient experience for all its visitors.

Northside District

111 N. Main Street, 330-434-7625 Northside District is a destination that exemplifies adaptive reuse with an artsy, eclectic kind of feel. With great access to the surrounding highways and easy-to-get-in-close parking, Northside is an environment defined by the creative people who live, work and breathe in a space on the doorstep of Akron’s reinvented downtown.

A cultural mecca and creative district, the Northside features an environment with music, artwork, sculpture and people as unique as the District itself. Located just north of MLK, Jr. Blvd., this little neighborhood is home to more than 15 independently owned businesses including: Luigi’s, Northside, Wine Side, Millworks Gallery, Architectural Greenery, Jack’s Coffee, Car Gear, The Mustill Store and House, Incite Creative, DeeTaylor8Design, Avenue B, Neil Leeson Décor Floral, Northside Ice and Coal Complex, SageRock.com, and Total Fitness Concepts. Beginning in Summer 2005, nearly one hundred condominiums and town homes will be built in the Northside District. Reprinted with permission of West Side Publishing Co., Inc.

Developers saw the potential for the area with the opening of the stadium and seized the opportunity to turn the once stagnant area into one buzzing with nightlife, with a multitude of bars, restaurants and entertainment venues.

Central District

Located in the heart of downtown, the Central District is host to key office buildings such as Cascade, The Shoppes at Akron Centre, Key Bank Building, FirstMerit Tower, Main Place, City Center, Akron City, Summit County and Federal government buildings as well as entertainment venues such as Lock 3 Park, Cascade Plaza and the Civic Theatre. Key attractions, such as the new library, John S. Knight Convention Center and National Inventors Hall of Fame also fall within this district.
