Works by 10 Art Photographers Featured at Summit Artspace

Ten established and emerging photographers will be featured in Photo 2009 at Summit Artspace Gallery October 3 through November 7.  Curated by professional photographer Andrew McAllister, the exhibition includes landscapes, abstracts and portraits done in a variety of techniques including Polaroid, black and white, hand-printed/hand-toned and large-scale digital photography.

“In selecting these particular photographers, I was looking for use of contemporary materials and contemporary art trends,” said McAllister.  “Contemporary art photography speaks to a larger dialogue than snapshot or commercial work.  It ‘s what’s seen in galleries in the world’s art capitals.”

Featured are Akron photographers Arnie Tunstall, Daiv Whaley, Brian Babb, Tanner Young, Amy Koons, Janice Kreitz, Melissa Stallard and Andrew McAllister plus Laura Bidwell of Peninsula and John Powers of Bath.  The public is invited to a free meet-the-photographers opening reception on Friday, October 2 from 5 to 7 pm.

The public is also invited to participate in two Saturday workshops during the exhibition:
October 10: 1-3 p.m., Handmade glass beads workshop with Inda Blatch Geib - $25 fee
October 17: 1-3 p.m., Painting on silk workshop with Margot Eiseman - $10 fee

Summit Artspace workshops are designed for adults and older teens. Beginners are welcome.  Participants must register by emailing psargent@neo.rr.com.
