Linda Rosenkrantz, Christopher Finch and Mark Greenwold
Symposium
Sunday, October 11, 2 pm
As part of the Akron Art Museum’s Familiar Faces: Chuck Close in Ohio Collections exhibition, three friends of Chuck Close will give their personal take on the contemporary artist and his work on Sunday, October 11, at 2 pm in the Downtown Akron-Summit County Public Library Auditorium.
The panel will include Linda Rosenkrantz, the subject of the Akron Art Museum’s famous nine-foot-tall Close portrait Linda. Those in attendance will be able to meet the subject of the iconic painting during her first trip to Akron. She will be joined by her husband Christopher Finch, an artist and author of Chuck Close: Work, a compilation of hundreds of studio visits and hours of conversation since he met Close in 1968, and Mark Greenwold, a Cleveland native who posed for Close and incorporated Close into many of his hyperrealistic, highly worked canvases. The symposium will be moderated by art critic Dan Tranberg.
Tickets are $5 for students, museum and Western Reserve PBS members and $10 for non-members. Tickets can be purchased online at www.AkronArtMuseum.org. A limited quantity of Chuck Close: Work by Christopher Finch will be available to purchase in the Museum Store. Following the symposium, there will be a meet and greet and book signing at the museum.
The symposium is generously sponsored by Contessa Gallery and the Akron Art Museum’s George and Ethel Nobil Fund.
