Major Akron intersection closed due to reported underground fire

Akron police closed the intersection of Exchange and Main streets in downtown Akron about 6:45 p.m.
Akron firefighters are investigating the report of an underground fire at the intersection.
This is near the same location of an underground fire in November that damaged an electrical vault. That fire left a large section of downtown Akron in the dark for several hours.
Akron fire dispatchers report that a spike in power was recorded shortly before tonight's report of an underground fire.
