Tuesday Musical Association’s Scholarship Program is statewide and open to any college student up to 27-years-old who fulfills the specified residency requirements. The program, now in its 55th year, is one of the best in Northeast Ohio.  In 1998 Tuesday Musical received a generous bequest from the Eva Mae Yockey Estate, in memory of her brother Arden J. Yockey, an educator in the Norton Public Schools. That unexpected gift provided an opportunity for the scholarship program to grow in size and monetary distributions. Today, both local and statewide performance scholarships are offered, plus two Music Education Scholarships. Additionally, another performance scholarship of $1,000 will be awarded at the annual Scholarship Recital for the best performance that day. Eligibility for any of the scholarships is based on the applicant, applicant’s school or teacher’s legal residence.

On March 13, 2010, nearly 120 students competed for Tuesday Musical’s scholarships at The University of Akron’s Guzzetta Hall. Twenty-two scholarships were awarded that day to piano, strings, woodwind, voice and brass students, plus two more scholarships to Music Education majors. An additional $1,000 scholarship for best performance will be awarded at the Scholarship Recital on Sunday, May 16th. This event will be adjudicated by Jeffrey Lindberg, a well-known faculty member of The College of Wooster, who has conducted at such venues as the Aspen Music School and Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.

From the nearly 120 students that competed, the winners represented schools throughout the state: The University of Akron, Kent State University, Oberlin Conservatory of Music, Cleveland Institute of Music, Ohio State University, the College Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati and Ashland University.

The ten students winning the top prizes - the $950 performance scholarships - will perform at the scholarship recital on May 16th and Jeffrey Lindberg will announce the student who won the additional Performance Scholarship at the post-concert reception immediately following the recital.
