The Beauty Lounge Needs Your Hair and Hosiery

Downtown Akron Salon Partners with Local Businesses and Matter of Trust to Aid in the Gulf Coast Oil Spill Clean Up

The Beauty Lounge in Downtown Akron has an unusual request for a good cause. If you haven’t had a trim in awhile, schedule a cut before Friday, May 14 and your hair will be donated in aid for the Gulf Coast oil spill. The salon is collecting clean hair clippings from cuts at their salon and other area salons, as well as used, clean hosiery from the public to send to the organization Matter of Trust to create natural oil absorbers called hair booms. The Beauty Lounge is partnering with Two Men and a Truck and the UPS Store of Akron to collect and ship the hair and hosiery.

Due to the overwhelming response from salons across the county, Matter of Trust is accepting hair shipments in waves. The Beauty Lounge is in the second wave of donors to ship hair. This ecological public charity builds natural oil absorbers made from hair clippings and hosiery called booms. The booms will be placed along the gulf shore lines in an effort to block as much oil from coming ashore as possible. Drop Off Location

Through Friday, May 14 hair and hosiery may be dropped off at Two Men and a Truck (1511 E. Market St., Akron, OH 44305) from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

Hair and Hose Drop Off Details

Hair donations from salons:

  • Line an empty box with a trash bag and fill the box with fresh, clean hair clippings.
  • Decorate your box with your salon personality and style it so we can share our Akron pride.
  • When the box is full (or by Friday, May 14), drop it off at Two Men and a Truck (1511 E. Market St., Akron, OH 44305).

Hosiery donations from the public:

  • Collect all clean hosiery in any condition from your friends, family and coworkers.
  • Simply place hosiery in any type of bag and deliver it to Two Men and a Truck (1511 E. Market St., Akron, OH 44305).

Final Drop Off Day Party

The Beauty Lounge will host a Final Drop Off Day Party at 5 p.m. on Friday, May 14 at Two Men And A Truck with food, fun and festivities! Food and entertainment donations are being accepted for the party. Please contact Melissa Lisuch-Vesely at 330-618-5219 if you are able to contribute items or services for the party.

Proceeds from food sales and donations will benefit the students of the Vanguard College of Cosmetology- A Paul Mitchell Partner School, who are currently taking donations to pay for special HAZMAT training to aid in the effort of placing hair booms.
