Join The Akron Civic Theatre for “Only The Lonely: The Music of Roy Orbison” on the historic stage of The Akron Civic Theatre on Saturday, September 24, 2011 at 8:00 PM.
This special one-night-only event will feature a 9-piece version of The Ryan Humbert Band (including a string section) performing over 24 of Roy Orbison's classic songs, including "Blue Bayou", "Crying", "Running Scared", "You Got It", "Pretty Woman", "It's Over", “Only The Lonely” and many more songs spanning Orbison’s incredible career, including rare tracks and Traveling Wilbury’s tunes too!
In 2006, Humbert and his band had the privilege of performing a 12-song "Roy" set for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame's American Music Masters Series in honor of Roy Orbison. They were the only band from N.E. Ohio invited to participate, where they performed for such notable guests as Barbara Orbison, Roy Orbison Jr. and legendary Roy Orbison producer Fred Foster at the event kickoff party.
In 2010, Humbert performed an expanded version of that show for The Canton Cabaret, and due to popular demand, Humbert is now bringing the performance to the legendary Akron Civic Theatre!
Humbert is also a successful N.E. Ohio singer-songwriter who has played with the likes of Train, Chrissie Hynde, Elvis Costello, Chris Isaak, Third Eye Blind, Foreigner, The Zac Brown Band & more. Ryan has performed for The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, Chrissie Hynde’s Akron restaurant VegiTerrenean, The U.S. Department of The Interior, Blossom Music Center, The House of Blues & countless other venues big and small. In 2009, Humbert released “Old Souls, New Shoes,” recorded in Nashville, featuring members of Third Eye Blind, The Counting Crows, The Black Crowes & more. Ryan is currently working on his next album “Sometimes The Game Plays You” due out in late 2011/early 2012, featuring musicians who have played with Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, Robert Plant, John Mellencamp, Lucinda Williams, Wilco & more.
The Cleveland Free Times claimed "Humbert is a dynamo...eager and rapid-fire...a catalyst for and enthusiastic supporter of the Ohio music scene."
Tickets are $25 for reserved seating and $20 for general admission.
