Spring Patent, Trademark Programs at Main Library Begin March 16

Science & Technology librarians at Main Library, a U.S. Patent and Trademark depository, demonstrate how to patent your invention and protect your creative output.  Invited local attorneys discuss how to capitalize on your invention.

Conception-to-Capitalize, with Dominic Frisina
Wednesday, March 16, 6:30-8 pm

As part of the Library’s “Ask-a-Patent-Attorney” series, local patent attorney Dominic Frisina will outline the process of turning an innovative idea into profit using intellectual property. Discussion topics will include patent clearance, sources of funding for R&D, the proper use of secrecy and non-compete agreements, identifying potential licensees, patent analytics, and methods of monetizing intellectual property.  The program will conclude with a Q and A. 

Introduction to Patents and Patent Searching
Saturday, March 19, 10 am-12 pm

Librarians introduce you to the basics of getting a patent, including how to do a patent search using the United States Patent & Trademark Web site. Basic computer skills and familiarity with the Internet is preferred.

An Introduction to Intellectual Property
Tuesday, March 29, 6:30-7:30 pm

Just like other types of property, intellectual property needs to be protected from unauthorized use. This program is an introduction to the four ways to protect your creative output - patents, trademarks, copyrights and trade secrets.
