Parking meters offer new payment options
The days of pulling into the perfect street parking spot only to find you're without change to pop into the meter are gone on some Downtown streets. A new system is now available that accepts coins, one dollar bills and credit/debit cards in a small test area of Downtown. They will be in place on Main between Exchange and Cedar, on High between Exchange and Cedar, on Exchange between Water and High and on Paul Williams.
Each parking space in the test area is numbered. The pay stations, which are spaced 6-8 spaces apart, accept nickles, dimes, quarters, one dollar bills and credit/debit cards for up to two hours of parking. Additional time can be added later at any pay station after entering your space number.
Metered parking is $1 per hour Monday through Friday between the hours of 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. Parking is free in metered parking and in city-owned decks and lots after 6 p.m. and all day on weekends.
