March to the Beat of the Summer Arts Experience Steel Drum Band at the August Artwalk in Downtown Akron

Explore the Artwalk to the Sounds of State St. Steel this Saturday, August 6, 5-10 p.m.at the Artwalk in Downtown Akron

Guests will have the opportunity to "march" through the August Artwalk to the beat of the Summer Arts Experience steel drum band, State St. Steel, who will play in the CarGear parking lot from 6-8 p.m. on Saturday August 6. More than twenty participating galleries, restaurants and art spaces will showcase art, music, food and fun from 5-10 p.m. at the Artwalk in Downtown Akron!

State St. Steel is the percussion component of the City of Akron's Lock 3 Summer Arts Experience program for young apprentices ages 14-17, representing Akron area public and private schools. The group is directed by Matt Dudack, who also directs the University of Akron's steel drum band, and consists of student musicians who already play instruments and some who cannot read music at all. In an amazingly short amount of time, these apprentices have learned pieces ranging from Trinidadian classics to the Beatle's "Norwegian Wood!"

Created by the independent artists and galleries that participate, the Artwalk features one of a kind art and collectibles available for purchase as well as art openings, gallery shows, demonstrations and interactive art. The term "walk" is used loosely as "artwalkers" can enjoy riding from destination to destination on a trolley provided by the City of Akron. With so much to see and do, it's no surprise that the monthly Artwalk is becoming one of the hottest nights out in Akron!
