Library presents 3rd annual A GARDEN AFFAIR: FUN FOR ALL! Experts on hand for all-day event

A Garden Affair: Fun for All will be held at Main Library, 60 S. High St., Saturday, April 4, 2009 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.  With multiple speakers & activities, this daylong celebration gives the community a chance to learn from local experts on topics such as organic vegetable and water gardening, disease and pest control, native perennials and more.

Local horticultural related non-profit groups will be on hand to discuss their services and events throughout the day.

Schedule of Events:

9:15 - 10:15 a.m.
Amy Berens, Education Coordinator at Crown Point Ecology Center presents "Putting Worms to Work in Your Garden".

10:30 - 11:30 a.m.
Marilou Suszko takes us on an inspiring journey throughout Ohio introducing us to local organic farming and the need to support local agriculture efforts.

11 am - 12 pm Children's Library:
Saturday Story Time Sampler, enjoy story time with a gardening theme.

11:45 am - 1:15 p.m.
Cathy Morgan will share the secrets to growing your own delicious herbs in containers at home with minimal care and expense. Chef Sarah Mentzer will follow with a cooking demonstration showing us how to incorporate those thriving fresh herbs into your everyday meals.

1:15 - 2 p.m. Break - Lunch on your own

2-3 p.m.
Kristen Hampshire, award-winning writer and author of four outdoor design and landscaping books, will show you how to build a container garden and explore ideas for interesting "pots" to suit your personality.

2-3:30 p.m. Children's Library:
How does your garden grow? Hands-on-activities for the whole family.

2-3:30 p.m.
Decoupage a flower pot with your own creative design. For teens only. Space is limited. Please register in the teen department in advance.

3:15-4:15 p.m.
Polly Kaczmarek, Flowerscape Director for Keep Akron Beautiful will give an overview of "What Keeps Akron Blooming" including all the aspects of a successful urban garden.

9 a.m-5 p.m. High Street/Atrium Level:
