The Akron-Summit County Public Library has officially joined the library resource sharing consortium known as SearchOhio. This collaborative effort to share library materials is comprised of seventeen public libraries, mostly in Northeast Ohio. The largest members are the Cuyahoga County Public Library, Toledo-Lucas County Public Library, Stark County District Library, and the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County. Library customers with an Akron-Summit County Public Library card are able to borrow books, CDs, and DVDs from any of the participating libraries. For customers of the Akron-Summit system, the number of items available will grow from the current 2 million to over 13 million items.
“This type of resource sharing is exactly the kind of cooperative effort that communities increasingly expect from local government. We are excited about our future engagement with SearchOhio, and the value it will add to our library services,“ said Library Director David Jennings.
Library customers may request books, CDs, DVDs, VHS, Books on Cassette, and Books on CD. Books in Boxes, Kits for Kids, Book Club to Go, magazines, reference material and government documents aren’t available for SearchOhio circulation.
Books and other media will circulate for 21 days. DVDs and videos will circulate for 7 days. Items may be renewed up to 3 times.
Available items generally take about three to five business days to get to a designated pickup location. Customers will be notified that the item is ready for pickup via e-mail, phone, or postal mail. Items will remain on hold for seven days. Items are returned to any Akron-Summit County Public Library, which will send them back to the proper library.
