The Akron Art Museum teams up with the Akron-Summit County Public Library and Summit Artspace for a day of free family events during June’s Sunday Sampler.
At the Akron Art Museum, open 11 am – 5 pm, enjoy free gallery admission, including admission to the newly opened exhibitions Detroit Disassembled: Photographs by Andrew Moore and Arctic Re-visions: Isaac Julien’s True North, in addition to the following free activity:
Extreme Weather Landscapes! Family Drop-In, 12 – 3 pm
What is a landscape? What kinds of information do artists include in landscapes? How do artists capture the sensations we experience during extreme weather? For answers to these questions and more, explore everything from steamy hot colors in painted summer scenes to the icy wind soundtrack of the Isaac Julien film installation True North. After seeing the exhibition, participate in family friendly tours and create some weather inspired artworks to take home.
The Akron-Summit County Public Library will be open from 1 – 5 pm. In the Special Collections Department, the Getting Started in Family History exhibit will be on display. There will also be Crafts to Go in the 3rd floor Teen Division, as well as Story Time Sampler in the Children’s Library at 2 pm.
Summit Artspace will be open from 11 am - 5 pm and will feature an exhibition of paintings and artwork by Women’s Art League of Akron members. Register to win a painting donated by a well-known artist with proceeds going to the WAL Scholarship Fund. Artists Betty Wolfe and Linda Mertus will also present demonstrations from 1 – 3 pm.

Admission: Adult general admission is $7, Student and Senior (65+) general admission is $5, Children (12 and under) are FREE, members are FREE. On the first Sunday of every month, individual admissions to the collection are FREE. Special exhibitions may require paid admission. No tours available on these days.
