July Sunday Sampler Features Free Art Events In Downtown Akron

Sunday, July 3, 2011

The Akron Art Museum teams up with the Akron-Summit County Public Library and Summit Artspace for a day of free family events during July’s Sunday Sampler.

At the Akron Art Museum, open 11 am – 5 pm, enjoy free gallery admission to the collection and special exhibitions The Dorothy and Herbert Vogel Collection: Fifty Works for Ohio and All-Star Jazz: The Photographs of Herman Leonard. This is the first Sunday Sampler to see The Dorothy and Herbert Vogel Collection: Fifty Works for Ohio and the last to view All-Star Jazz: The Photographs of Herman Leonard. Gallery admission is required for Kaleidoscope Quilts: The Art of Paula Nadelstern ($7 adults; $5 seniors and students; members and children 12 and under free). For more information visit www.AkronArtMuseum.org or call 330.376.9185.

The Akron-Summit County Public Library will be open from 1 – 5 pm, with Story Time Sampler in the Children’s Library at 2 pm. For more information visit www.akronlibrary.org or call 330.643.9000.

Summit Artspace will be open from 1 – 5 pm and will feature the special exhibition The Altered Book Project showcasing the work of 17 top area artists. Originally the idea of Kent artist Claudia Berlinski, the exhibition displays a reader’s intimate relationship with books by incorporating recycled materials and embellishments. A collage and mixed media demonstration by Shirley Ende-Saxe will occur from 1—3 pm courtesy of Akron Women’s Art League. For more information visit www.summitartspace.org or call 330.376.8480.

Parking is free in the municipal parking garage across from the entrance of the museum.

Sunday Samplers are made possible by a generous gift from The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company.
