Healthy New Year's Resolutions
Did you make a New Year’s resolution to eat healthier? The updated Hattie’s Library Café features a new salad bar of fresh, organic and locally-sourced produce centrally-located in downtown Akron. So, stop by anytime between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., Monday through Friday, to grab a quick, convenient and healthy lunch.
The salad bar at Hattie’s Library Café will feature vegetables and herbs grown at Hattie’s Garden, a Hattie Larlham vocational training program for adults with developmental disabilities. Hattie’s Garden is located at Crown Point Ecology Center in Bath, Ohio, and grows organic produce year-round. So eating at Hattie’s Library Café means you’re doing good while getting incredibly fresh, nutritious food.
The salad bar at Hattie’s Library Café will also offer salad dressings made from scratch with fresh herbs from Hattie’s Garden. Even better, they’re our own recipes.
More than Salads: Smoothies and Soups
Need a mid-day pick-me-up? How about a guilt-free smoothie from Hattie’s Library Café? From Blueberry Bomb to Citrus Twist, there are countless flavors to choose from. The café will also feature a flavor of the day, every day. Many of these delicious smoothies are made with low fat products and can be made with soy milk at no extra charge.
Feeling like more than a salad today? At Hattie’s Library Café, you’ll get your choice of two hot soups, plus other healthy choices including hummus and pita, fresh fruit and more, every day.
Eat Local
Searching for organic vegetables in Northeast Ohio during the winter can feel like looking for a needle in a haystack. Hattie’s Library Café is committed to offering as many organic, locally-grown vegetables both from Hattie’s Garden and other local vendors as possible, at affordable prices, year round.
Did you know that spinach travels an average of 2,086 miles from farm to table in the U.S.? According to a 2005 study by Penn State's College of Agricultural Sciences, this means spinach can lose up to half its nutritional value just getting to your plate. The distance from Hattie’s Library Café and Hattie’s Garden is only 11 miles. The closer to you your food comes from, the more likely it is to contain more of the nutrients your body needs to lose weight and stay healthy.
If you don’t have time for a full lunch break, grab a freshly made salad to go from Hattie’s Library Café.
